Uptown Lexington, Inc. is a nonprofit, 501 (c) 3 organization, charged with administering the Main Street Program and managing the revitalization of the Uptown Center in Lexington. Lexington is located in Davidson County, serving as the seat of County Government, in the heart of the Piedmont in North Carolina.
The Main Street Program was created by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in the late 1970’s, and is coordinated on a statewide level by the North Carolina Main Street Program, under the Department of Commerce. Lexington was selected in 1993 as a North Carolina Main Street Community. The local program receives technical assistance and support from the state and national programs, and through a vast network of communities that are all working to strengthen their downtowns.
Our Vision Statement
Located at the southern tip of North Carolina’s Yadkin Valley wine region, uptown Lexington is the county’s cultural center, especially for celebrations of our rich barbecue heritage. With an active and increasingly diverse community committed to business and government activities, uptown Lexington focuses on growing the large collection of locally-owned businesses. Uptown Lexington’s historic district is a mixed use neighborhood filled with southern charm.
Our Mission Statement
Uptown Lexington, Inc. exists to create an environment, which fosters the ongoing development of Lexington, North Carolina’s historic uptown center, as the community’s primary economic, cultural, and social center.
ULI utilizes the National Main Street Center’s Four Point approach® as tools for growth of the district:
 Organization to build consensus and cooperation among many groups and individuals with an interest in uptown;
 Design to enhance the physical appearance of historic buildings, encourage supportive new construction and develop sensitive design management systems;
 Promotion to market the traditional district’s assets to customers, potential investors, new businesses, local citizens and visitors; and
 Economic Vitality to strengthen the district’s economic base while exploring new opportunities and meeting new challenges.
